fake games for money

Four more baseball players, all of the Brother Elephants team in the pro baseball league (職棒聯盟), were named defendants (被告) yesterday for their alleged involvement (涉入) in the game-fixing scam (詐欺).
In their extended investigation (調查) into the scandal (醜聞) of playing fake games for money, prosecutors summoned (傳喚) five players for interviews, including Elephants pitcher Li Hao-jen who was already interrogated (訊問) on Wednesday.
Li was let go after putting up a bail (保釋金) of NT$200,000.
Four others appearing for questioning included pitcher (投手) Mai Chia-jui, catcher (捕手) Kuo Yi-feng, and outfielder (外野手) Huang Cheng-wei, who were all released (釋放) on bail of NT$150,000 pending further probe. Chu Hung-shen, another outfielder of the Elephants, was ordered for a bail of NT$100,000.
All of the defendants were let go after promising to report to prosecutors whenever necessary. The latest move prompted Elephants of the Brother Hotel to increase the number of players prohibited (禁止) from participating in (參加) new games to a total of seven. The players' salaries are also temporarily suspended.
But the players' contracts will remain valid (有效的) for now, according to the existing regulations set by Taiwan's Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL).
